10 month old won’t nurse during the day?

My almost 10 month old has stopped nursing during the day.He still nurses well when he first wakes up in the morning and before he goes to bed at night.Up until this week I would nurse him before his morning nap and before his afternoon nap as well. Now when I offer him the breast he sucks lazily for a few seconds before pulling off, or even worse, biting me. He shows no indication of an ear infection or any other malady. He already drinks water from a straw, so should I just pump during the day and give him his milk that way?

This it definitely normal. He’s interested in everything else that is going on and he doesn’t want to take the time to sit down and nurse. My daughter is 8 months and has started this some what on a couple different occasions. What I find works is to have a designated nursing spot free of distraction where you go only to nurse, that has helped me tremendously.

"Miss Taken" has a, uh, apt username. Kids don’t wean at seven months — good grief — a parent may wean them to bottles, but… No, it would not be a good idea to start giving bottles!

Anyway…

This is VERY normal at this age!

Just stay the course with offering in the usual times and places. Definitely do NOT give milk in a bottle or cup at this point, or you run a high risk of premature total weaning from the breast.

He will nurse efficiently when he does nurse, and get all the milk he needs. Trust your baby!

Keep offering, and, in a month or so he will be nursing much more. Skip the pump, stay the course, and — I can’t emphasize this enough — trust your baby, who is right now really excited about being part of the world, so much so that he can barely find time to settle down and nurse. Once this little phase passes, he will be back to nursing away quite happily. And it is a phase, a very common one, and it will pass.

He could be self weaning. Both of mine did at 11 months. At this stage he should be having plenty of solids so nuursing twice a day should be enough. You don’t need to pump and give him more.

My son self-weaned at 7 months.I was disappointed because I wanted to go the full year.Your son might be weaning himself.Pumping and giving him milk in his cup might not be a bad idea.
