Dear All, my baby girl is now 12 months old. I am getting concerned with regards to her development now, she does not crawl at all, she can sit independently no problem.
She leans forward to get the toys etc but if something is out of her reach she would start crying for it and expects us to give it to her.

She enjoys being in the walker and would move around very well, she says mamma, pappa, waves good bye and eats and drinks very well.

But I was expecting her to start crawling at least by now, have you experienced the same thing with any of your children?

Your daughter sounds fine for 12mths. First of all crawling is not standard. Not all children craw before they walk. There are many reasons for this including perhaps laziness, she knows if she crys you will get it for her! So why should she bother (babies are not silly). Finally, I agree with Peachymum that the walker is not helping. She probably is enjoying the wheels making things easy (or so it seems) but it is not showing her the real mechanics of walking and could also be affecting her crawling!!

Her development is perfectly normal and healthy. She’s reached all her milestones in regard to talking, sitting, eating etc. Many babies don’t ever crawl, they go straight from sitting to pulling themselves up and walking. Some babies start walking early (8 months, my son was an early walker!) some start at 16 months, it’s still considered normal. It’s very common for crawling not to occur. My advice would be to ditch the walker though because they’ve been known to delay walking. My son never used a walker and he was an early walker.Congrats on your lovely baby, once she’s moving around, you’ll be chasing her so enjoy it while it lasts!

Please don’t worry about this! My Girlfriend and I both had babies at the same time. My baby has been crawling from6 months and her son just started crawling. You baby sounds perfectly normal to me. Every baby is different. Please relax, Enjoy your baby.

Walkers are proven to skip crawling in a babies development.

Get rid of it I say. They are banned where i live.
